Hirnykshyp wanted to kill Prahlad. Prahlad was a devotee of Vishnu. Therefore Hrinykshyp wanted to kill Prahlad. Hrinykshyp had a sister names as Holika. Holika had received the blessing that fire can not burn her. he tried to kill his son many times but could not got success because the lord Vishnu saved his life every time. so harinyakashyap decided to burn the parhlad.

so harinyakashyap sat him on fire with holika. but lord vishnu burned holika and saved prahalad. therefore the festival of Holi is celebrated. It's seen as the triumph of good over evil. It is a festival of colors. In India, the festival of Holi is celebrated in different ways.
