He called his sister Holika, Holika had the blessings that fire cant burn her. SO she sat on in fire with prahlad in his lap but for everyones surprise Prahlad did not burn but Holika died. In actual main pooja of Holi festival is performed day before holi that is on Holika dahan. People gather and collects log of Wood and then Women worships the log of wood which is actually about taking evil out of life  and worshiping Prahlad.
